Using a Downloaded Layout

  1. First of all, find the layout you wish to use. This should be simple enough. Now, when you're downloading a layout from Akatsuki Designs, you can see what it looks like first before downloading it. Once you've set what you wish to download, simply click on the download link.

    Download link

  2. A new window will show up and ask you as to what name you wish to save it as. Don't forget where you've saved your file ("My Documents" is usually the best folder).

  3. You will need a zip-file utilizer, and I would recommend Winzip. Now, what you need to do is unzip your files and extract it to your My Documents folder.

  4. Now, it's time to upload your files onto your server. I would suggest that you use a FTP program. I have a tutorial on how to upload things through FTP, please click here to go there.

  5. Here are the list of files you should upload:
    • /images - the images folder (Upload using the "binary" mode)
    • index.html - Where your content is located. You can change the welcome message, the links on your sidebar, etc. on this page.
    • style.css - the stylesheet file. You are not allowed to modify the content without permission.

  6. [CHANGING THE TITLE] You may also wish to change the title that shows up on the window bar. To do so, find the line that says:
    <head><title>... » Designed by Rei</title>
Or something similar, and replace it with your site's name. You are allowed to remove the "Designed by Rei" part on this part ONLY! The ... part represents the layout's title and the characters featured. It differs from each layout.

  7. [REPLACING THE CONTENT] Once you've uploaded your files, open up index.html, and find where the content is. Mine usually starts with the following
    <h1> About the Layout</h1>
    <b>Layout: Table#13
    <b>Music: FictionJunctionYUUKA - Angel Gate

You may erase this text up until where it says "The images used for this layout is © their rightful owners.". Replace it with your own welcome message and text.

  8. [EDITING THE LINKS] If the layout has navigation links, you may wish to change the links so that they will link to your pages. To do so, find the area that states:
    <li><a href="index.html">Link Here</a></li>
There are usually more than one of this lines, and you may use as many, and as little as you wish. Only change the index.html, and Link Here part of the code above. Otherwise, the page will be messed up because of coding errors.
  9. Once you're satisfied with your content, don't forget to save the files! I hope this tutorial helps =)
